To all kite flying enthusiasts, get ready for the 84th Kite Day in Austin! Come out this Sunday, March 4, for the Zilker Park Kite Festival presented by ABC Home and Commercial Services and The City of Austin! Don’t worry if you don’t have a kite, visit the HEB make a kite tent to customize your own!
ABC – Austin’s own Bobby Jenkins will be one of the judges in this year’s kite festival contest. The Kite Contest is open to anyone who wants to compete. Only homemade single line kites are accepted in the contest. There is no cost to enter. Registration is between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. the day of the event at the tables next to the sound booth.
The Kite Contest starts at 1 p.m. Trophies will be awarded in each event for the top three finishers. Events that have youth (15 and under) and adult categories will have separate trophies awarded to youth and adult competitors. Competition categories include:
Highest Angle Kite (Youth and Adult)
Steadiest Kite (with or without a tail) (Youth and Adult)
Strongest Pulling Kite
Smallest Kite
Most Unusual Kite (Youth and Adult)
Largest Kite
Oldest and Youngest Kite Fliers entered in the Kite Contest
Kite Contest Rules
Festivities kick-off at 10 a.m. and the contest begins at 1 p.m. In case of rain, join us the following weekend on March 11!
