Can ticks spread the novel coronavirus?

This virus, similar to the SARS virus is zoonotic, which means they are believed to have been transmitted from animal hosts to humans. According to the National Pest Management Association, vector pests—including ticks—do not play a role in transmission.

Can the virus spread through pools and hot tubs?

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), there is also no evidence to indicate that COVID-19 can spread through pools and hot tubs. The virus that is responsible for COVID-19 should become inactive or be removed through proper operation, maintenance and sanitation efforts.

To ensure that your pool or hot tub is adequately disinfecting your pool water:

  • Test your pH and sanitation levels before you enter your pool or hot tub. Spread any needed chemicals across the surface of the water while your pumps are running. Allow 15 minutes for these chemicals to be circulated, and then test chemical levels again to make sure they are within recommended levels. If not, do not enter your pool or hot tub.
  • Retest the water when you finish bathing and make any necessary adjustments.
  • Consult your pool's operating instructions and follow any guidance outlined by the manufacturer, as chemical concentrations can vary.
