San Antonio’s Coolest Pools

Coolest Pools in San Antonio

It’s already April, and summer is quickly approaching! With cooler temperatures and regular rain showers, it’s hard to fathom the sweltering summer months ahead. Prepare yourself by learning about the best public swimming pools available to San Antonio residents. The city also boasts many beautiful hotel pools, making it easy to get away and cool down.

For the most current opening and closing dates, fees, hours, and locations check the City of San Antonio’s Parks & Recreation website.

Central

San Pedro Springs Pool, located in the park of the same name, near the intersection of North Flores Street and West Ashby Place. Its claim to fame is its status as the second oldest park in the United States. The land it rests on was designated for public use by the Spanish government, back in the 1700’s. The pool is built on top of the San Pedro Spring, and is full of spring-fed water. It is also surrounded by many large trees that provide shade in the hot summer months and has a zero-grade entry for cautious swimmers (and fun rushing water to splash in!). The surrounding park offers many amenities, including playgrounds, picnic areas with grills, walking trails, and tennis courts.

Woodlawn Pool is located in the park of the same name, near the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and French Place. The pool’s main attraction is that it has a few waterslides, which provide hours of entertainment for the kiddos. Woodlawn Park also offers many different amenities, the main one being an artificial lake that was built back in the 19th century. Residents can enjoy fishing and boating on the lake, trail walks, and the city’s annual 4th of July celebration, including fireworks and a parade.

East

Lady Bird Johnson Pool is located in the park of the same name, near the intersection of Nacogdoches Road and Wurzbach Parkway. Opened in 2004, it is one of the newer pools in San Antonio and considered innovative in that it combines swimming pool and skate bowl facilities. The pool is asymmetrical and has several zero-grade entries with several fountains shooting off water. The deepest part of the pool is 4 feet deep. Also in the park are a skate park, a community center, and several basketball courts.

West

Sunset Hills Pool is located in the park of the same name, near the intersection of 281 and Winding Way. It is a standard size pool, with the addition of several water slides which appear to be slightly longer than the ones at Woodlawn. Also in the park is a small playground and a basketball court.

Garza Pool is located in the park of the same name, near the intersection of Mira Vista and Callaghan Road. This pool complex houses two pools with shades in different areas and a completely shaded picnic area with tables. The playground is also heavily shaded as well, so this is a good park for those who want to be outdoors and stay out of the sun. Additional amenities include tennis courts, an adult fitness area, and a walking trail.

San Antonio also has no shortage of beautifully designed hotel pools, many with a view of the downtown skyline. Whether you swim or just lounge, you’ll definitely enjoy any of these stunning pools.

  • The Hyatt Regency Riverwalk offers a modern, rectangular pool on the hotel rooftop. Soak up some rays, and 360-degree views of the downtown skyline.
  • The Westin Riverwalk boasts a heated rooftop pool with views of the San Antonio Riverwalk. There’s a cabana-style bar at the pool for ordering drinks and snacks.
  • The Omni La Mansion del Rio hosts what would seem to be an ordinary pool accessorized with beautiful Spanish colonial architecture. Seasonal events include Mariachi performances every Friday at 5 and Dive-in movies at dusk on Saturdays, from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekends.
  • Mokara Hotel & Spa offers another modern, rectangular pool on the hotel rooftop – heated for your comfort (although you won’t need it in the summer).
  • Hotel Contessa’s rooftop pool looks to be indoors at first glance. Upon further inspection, you’ll see it has several walls but no roof, giving it a cozy feel without being enclosed. It is surrounded by comfy lounge chairs and has a hot tub at one end.

Having your own pool may seem like more hassle than it’s worth, but remember – ABC can help manage the upkeep of your pool so you can focus on enjoying it. ABC provides services such as cleaning, checking the water’s pH balance, and regular inspection of pool instruments. We can also repair faulty equipment so your pool can be restored to proper functioning.
