Community Involvement Hero video transcript

In the US, we roughly overproduce by about 40 percent relative to what Americans could possibly consume. There are roughly eight hundred thousand food insecure people that in our 13 county service area. Currently North Texas Food Bank provides about 77 million meals a year across our 13 county service area. Our goal is to get to ninety two million meals by 2025, and we’re working hard at that. It means more trucks, more food donations, more gifts in kind and more canned food drives. In order for us to get there.

When I first walked into this facility, it just blew me out of the water. It is high tech, it is absolutely clean. It is a fabulous facility. It’s new. It’s pretty. They’ve got gardens outside where they bring kids in. They really want to be part of our community, not just a warehouse that brings food somewhere, but instead a partner with all kinds of folks in this area.

Unlike several distribution centers that may focus on one type of food, the North Texas Food Bank is actually accepting all types of food.

Roughly 50 percent of the food that we move through this warehouse is fresh fruits and vegetables, and that presents a unique and different set of requirements where food safety and pest management are concerned. And ABC was there to guide us along that process, really helping us think through the design of our pest management approach, operations and systems. We feel that when we donate pest control to any charitable organization, but especially like North Texas Food Bank, it’s different than writing a check.

When we donate service, we’re actually saving them an expense. Every single dollar we save them goes to help their mission to take care of other people. It’s a donation that’s very important to us. The teamwork and the quality that ABC is giving us, I think we cannot live without. If not for the partnership with ABC, we wouldn’t be able to meet our goal of consistently providing three meals for every dollar donation that comes to the food bank. In fact, the tagline, “it’s not just what we do, it’s who we are” really resonated with me personally relative to thinking about our mission, integrity, collaboration and compassion that that hit home for the food bank overall.

[00:02:32.770]
And I think we found a really key relationship that’s rooted in our identities of community service. And I think that’s really helped to bolster our partnership. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do every day. So on behalf of the North Texas Food Bank and the eight hundred thousand food insecure people in our area just want to say thank you and look forward to many more years to come.
