Can consumer products get rid of mosquitoes?

Products such as electric bug zappers and citronella candles are little use at stopping mosquitoes. Mosquito repellants that are applied directly to your skin will help keep mosquitoes away from you, but they are far from a permanent solution.

What attracts mosquitoes?

Mosquitoes lay eggs in places that contain standing water including bird baths, puddles, and clogged gutters. Any standing water around the home will inevitably attract mosquitoes, so it’s important to keep dry any areas where moisture accumulates.

The main thing that draws mosquitoes to humans is carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes from up to 150 feet away. When mosquitoes are close by, body odors and body heat can attract mosquitoes.

Why are mosquitoes dangerous?

Mosquitoes are dangerous because they carry and can transmit diseases such as malaria, West Nile virus, Yellow fever and Filariasis. Even when mosquitoes are not carrying diseases, they are a nuisance that can interrupt anything from a backyard barbecue to a large sporting event.

What system does ABC Atlanta use?

ABC Home & Commercial Services in Atlanta uses an environmental mosquito management system to provide a systematic approach to mosquito control. The system features CoastalMister, a mosquito misting system that places product in key areas in your outdoor living environment.

The CoastalMister system can conveniently be adjusted to either automatic or manual control. We also use a "suppression" system where we treat harborage areas, breeding sites, and resting sites for mosquitoes. It is done once a month during Mosquito season - April to September.

What are the steps in your mosquito treatment process?

We have a five-step treatment process that involves the following:

  1. Surveying
  2. Breeding source reduction
  3. Environmental modification of breeding habitats
  4. Biological control
  5. Direct contact treatment of mosquitoes in your area
