Lawn Fertilization in Austin, TX

Our area's poor soils and harsh climate make lawn fertilization in Austin an effective way to deliver critical nutrients to your grass and plants. The specialists at ABC Home & Commercial Services can work with you to create an annual schedule to deliver just what your lawn needs at the right times to keep your yard healthy and green.

ABC’s treatment plan consists of two packages — Basic & Premiere — offering 6 or 12 treatments per year. The products applied are designed to optimize turf health, color, and root growth. Both programs include weed control with pre-emergent applications in the spring and fall, designed to help reduce weed germination.

We can’t guarantee a weed-free lawn (and be suspicious of any lawn service that does), but we can reduce the number of interlopers to your turf. Post-emergent weed treatments will also be provided throughout the season, targeting broadleaf weeds. In order to be environmentally conscious, we will treat only when and where needed. Our primary products contain active ingredients which balance the soil’s ecosystem, building strong roots and growing healthier, resilient plants.

ABC believes that using organic products that promote overall health of the turf is the best approach. Some fertilizers contain artificial or synthetic chemicals and we do our best to avoid the use of those fertilizers. A normal treatment schedule includes seven treatment visits over the course of the year, from an ABC lawn specialist.

Every yard has individual needs, and that means that the best approach to service your lawn could very well be different from the approach that works for your neighbor across the street. We’ll create a service schedule based on your unique lawn.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the key differences between Basic & Premiere treatment plans?

ABC offers two treatment plans for fertilization — Basic & Premiere

The Basic program is designed for a homeowner that wants a little help with the health of their lawn but is prepared to do work in the yard themselves to help with health and appearance. The Basic program includes:

  • Application of granular or liquid fertilizer 6X per year. These applications are designed to help with the overall health of the turf and provide a steady flow of seasonally appropriate nutrients.
  • Application of Pre-emergent weed control 2X per year in Jan/Feb and Aug/Sep. Pre- and Post-emergent weed control is applied to Bermuda lawns only. St. Augustine and Zoysia lawns receive spot treatment for weed control as needed.
  • Application of Post-emergent weed spot treatment on every visit as needed. This is treatment for weeds which the technician observes in the course of a visit.

ABC’s Premiere program is designed for a homeowner that wants a turn-key solution for the health & appearance of turf and grass at their home. The Premiere program provides fertilization, weed control and insect & disease coverage. This program includes:

  • Application of granular or liquid fertilizer 12X per year. These applications are designed to help with the overall health of the turf and provide a steady flow of nutrients which are seasonally appropriate, all year long.

Are there any additional benefits to the Premiere treatment plan?

When we say turnkey, we mean we’ve got you covered. With ABC’s Premiere treatment for fertilization, you also get:

  • Disease Control
    Brown Patch
    Grey Leaf Spot
  • Disease Management
    Take-All Patch
  • Surface Insect Control
    Chinch Bugs, Army Worms, etc.
  • Grub Control
March/April preventative application. Treatment can be applied as Grubs are active.
  • Fire Ant Control 1X Application of a high-grade Fire Ant killer. Coverage lasts for full year. Additional spot treatments included if needed.

Are there any other turf building options?

Yes, we recommend regular applications of compost. Compost is organic material applied directly onto the lawn and is designed to improve the overall health of the turf. We would typically recommend aeration with compost and we suggest it be done twice a year – typically in the Fall and Spring.

What is the best approach to help an unhealthy lawn?

If achieving a perfectly green lawn seems to be a constant challenge, you are not alone. Even a climate that’s as friendly as Central Texas’ can be hard on grass.

Central Texas generally has all the sunlight your lawn might want, but without the right nutrients, your grass won’t necessarily be able to take advantage of our sunny climate to thrive and grow. That’s why regular lawn care, with organic, turf-building products is the key part of the foundation your yard needs, and ABC Home and Commercial Services—Austin can provide.

When our lawn care specialists visit your home, the first step is identifying exactly what your lawn needs. Our specialists will survey your lawn, observe the conditions that affect growth such as shade from trees and the slope of your lawn, and develop a custom plan for your yard. The custom plan will include an estimate that details what we recommend and what the options are. Once we have a plan that meets your needs, we’ll schedule a time and day for the treatment—and you don’t even have to be home when we visit.

Are you able to provide weed control for lawns?

A healthy lawn and a weed-free lawn go hand in hand. If a lawn is healthy and thriving, most weeds will be choked out. So yes, weed care is included in our regular schedule of treating your lawn. Additionally, when we choose a weed control product, it will be used only when and where necessary to gain maximum results.

This approach may require more patience, but we have found it is the best approach for lawn care in our communities.

Are your products environmentally friendly?

We choose our products according to their compliance with environmental standards. Our first efforts and recommendations almost always begin with recommending natural, organic and low-impact products. The well-being of your family and the environment is our company’s priority. The products we select are designed for use around schools, businesses and homes.

“I was very impressed with the handyman services provided by ABC Home & Commercial Services. Mark was professional and treated my home like it was his own. He did a phenomenal job fixing the loose siding on the chimney and securing the cedar shutters on the front of our home. While working inside our home, he listened to my concerns and addressed the tasks with efficiency and informed me of the curing time needed for the caulk to properly dry. I would definitely contact ABC again for future needs and request the same technician again.”

“We had a problem with an AC unit not cooling. We couldn’t reach ABC over the weekend (turned out we were calling the wrong number. They have an after hours answering service) so we called a different company. They told us the compressor was tripping the breaker and needed to be replaced. We were quoted $3700 for a new compressor or $7800 for a whole new AC. We decided to hold off and get a second opinion from ABC because we’ve used them for various things for more than 30 years, and we trust them. Their AC tech came out and said he was pretty sure the problem was the breaker, not the AC, so we asked ABC to send out an electrician. The electrician pulled out the breaker and confirmed that was the problem. It took him less than 45 minutes, and that was with me watching and asking questions about it. He probably would have been able to do it faster without an audience. For both techs to come out, the total was about $160. With the other company, we would have paid at least $3700 just to find out it still didn’t fix the problem.”
